Measuring water vapour permeability using remote-reading humidity sensors

Abstract The water vapour permeability is a material property used in calculations of the hygrothermal performance buildings. standard test method (the ‘cup test’), little changed for decades and based on measuring weight changes, has been shown repeatedly round-robin comparisons to have poor accuracy consistency between laboratories. Here we describe new approach which primary measurement humidity difference across sample, monitored continuously using sensors that are remotely readable. box-in-box (BiB) apparatus described smaller simpler than cup test. BiB shorter duration carried out without disturbance sample. New results calcium silicate sheet, brick ceramic autoclaved aerated concrete compared with published values obtained by (considered be lower accuracy).
